Winter Is Delayed Further

There has probably been few worse examples of an author’s seeming contempt for his loyal readers than that of George R. R. Martin. The next volume of the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series, ‘The Winds of Winter,’ has been further delayed and will not appear prior to the next season of ‘A Game of Thrones’ television series. Martin has commented on the delay recently and the links below are to articles that look at his comments and the delay.

George R.R. Martin Says He Doesn’t Know the Ending of A Song of Ice and Fire Yet

TIME

Though the ending for the Game of Thrones show is likely set in stone, author George R.R. Martin says the final moments of A Song of Ice and Fire—the book series upon which the HBO phenomenon is based—are not. In a recent interview with the Observer, Martin said he intends to write a “bittersweet” ending, though he isn’t positive yet what that ending will be.

“I haven’t written the ending yet,” he said. “I’ve said before that the tone of the ending that I’m going for is bittersweet. I mean, it’s no secret that Tolkien has been a huge influence on me, and I love the way he ended Lord of the Rings. It ends with a victory, but it’s a bittersweet victory…All I can say is that’s the kind of tone I will be aiming for. Whether I achieve if or not, that will be up…

George R.R. Martin Asks Fans to Stop Pestering Him About Game of Thrones Twists

TIME

George R.R. Martin is politely asking fans to knock it off.

The author wrote on his blog that he’s been inundated with emails and comments about certain events in recent Game of Thrones episodes, and he would like instead to focus on writing his eagerly awaited next book, The Winds of Winter.

“… Meanwhile, other wars are breaking out on other fronts, centered around the last few episodes of Game of Thrones. It is not my intention to get involved in those, nor to allow them to take over my blog and website, so please stop emailing me about them, or posting off-topic comments here on my Not A Blog….Yes, I know that The Hollywood Reporter named me ‘the third most powerful writer in Hollywood’ last December. You would be surprised at how little that means. I cannot control what anyone else says or does, or make…

George R.R. Martin Determined to Finish New Game of Thrones Book by 2016

TIME

For years, George R.R. Martin hasn’t even been able say he’s going out for a taco without impatient fans crying, “Finish the book, George!”

But with the upcoming fifth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones expected to catch up to many of the storylines in his A Song of Ice and Fire saga, the author has started telling himself: You know what? It’s really time to finish that book…

Having The Winds of Winter published before season 6 of Thrones airs next spring “has been important to me all along,” says the best-selling New Mexico author. “I wish it was out now. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.”

In one intriguing new wrinkle, Martin says he just came up with…

Release of Next ‘Game of Thrones’ Novel Will Not Happen in 2015

TIME

George R.R. Martin’s The Winds of Winter, the long-awaited sixth novel in his ‘A Song of Ice and Fire‘ saga that inspired the HBO series Game of Thrones, will not be published in 2015, his publisher toldThe Guardian on Friday.

Jane Johnson said HarperCollins would instead be publishing a new illustrated compilation of three official prequel novellas to the series, The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight.

“The short novels have been previously published in separate anthologies but never put together before, and this will be a particularly beautiful edition,” Johnson told TheGuardian. But she added that she had no information on a possible publication date for The Winds of Winter, which fans have been eagerly awaiting since Martin published the bestselling A Dance with Dragons in 2011.

In December Martin posted on his website to suppress speculation over the…
