If this book was simply about the mystery and not the ‘romance,’ it could very well be a decent book. It is not the better for the romance, rather the worse. Disappointing.

This one had me almost from the very beginning and I was really enjoying this strange tale of another world – but then right in the heart of the tale, it was interrupted by an imposed and unnecessary romance. It was not a good fit and reduced greatly my enjoyment of the story… and so my rating of the book reflects my disappointment.

The Barbarians: The Collapse Of – The Roman Empire: The Goths, The Vandals & The Sack Of Rome by Michael Hector
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
This book provides a good introduction to Rome, its rise, and fall. However, the book should have been edited to a greater degree than it was, for it is poor throughout in this respect. The editing fails what would otherwise have been a good (though brief) introduction to Rome.
